Trash Bags' commitment to environmental sustainability includes:

1. All Trash Bags products are made from recycled material.

Trash Bags is committed to sustainable waste management and therefore the concepts of refuse, reduce, re-use and recycle. Our products reflect this commitment and are made from majority-recycled materials. Through necessity some materials and finishes are first use as no alternative is available to the livelihood or community organization but the majority of the materials used in all Trash bags products are recycled.

Trash Bags is committed to researching environmentally sustainable and recycled alternatives to the first use materials and finishes currently being used but this will take time and because of locality or economics may not be a viable option for the livelihood or community organisation.

2. Practicing sustainable waste management at all levels of Trash Bags operations.

Trash Bags is committed to sustainable waste management and therefore the concepts of refuse, reduce, re-use and recycle. Our business operations reflect this commitment by using recycled cardboard and paper for all packaging and marketing purposes, implementing a zero waste policy in our workplaces and conducting a Bi-annual Sustainability Audit to monitor and improve upon our commitment.

3. Providing our customers and interested members of the public with information on environmental sustainability

Trash Bags believes education and awareness are part of the solution to a sustainable and ethical future and as a reflection of this belief we provide a News, Information and Events section on our website. This section not only includes news regarding Trash Bags products and the livelihood and community organizations we trade with but also information on environmental sustainability and fair trade and different events and projects Trash Bags supports.

News, Information and Events is a growing section of our website and will be updated quarterly, please check back regularily or join our membership program for email updates.

4. Encouraging and supporting Trash bags staff to instigate and participate in environmental and community projects and events.

Trash Bags believes in responsible business citizenship. Responsible business citizenship means that a business should be actively involved or give back to the environment and community to which it owes its success. Trash Bags is committed to environmental sustainability and community development both in Australia and internationally – we will instigate or participate in atleast one project or event annually and will implement and improve upon our Environment Policy and Fair Trade Policy – to reflect this.

5. Conducting an annual Sustainability audits of Trash Bags products and business operations.

As Trash Bags grows we are committed to enhancing our business practice to best reflect the most environmentally sustainable and ethical developments. Trash Bags will conduct a Bi-Annual Sustainability Audit to facilitate this process. The first Sustainability Audit will be published in June 2006.

* The majority of raw materials used in Trash Bags products are recycled. Where no alternative is available to the community organisation, new materials are utilised.
